Wall Art Decal Application and Removal

Vinyl wall art from The Writing on the Wall can be applied to most smooth clean surfaces including walls, doors, windows, wood, tile, etc.  We do not recommend applying it to wallpaper as it may damage your wallpaper if it needs to be removed.

If you are applying vinyl to your painted walls, please make sure the paint has had at least 30 days to cure before application.

Vinyl Wall Art Application

Your pre-spaced vinyl design will come composed of 3 layers:

1. The backing (bottom layer)
2. The vinyl (middle layer)
3. The transfer sheet (top layer)

Once you’ve identified the three layers of your vinyl decal follow our step by step instructions to flawless wall art application:

Step 1
Using a level, line up your design to your satisfaction on the surface of your choice and secure it across the top using painters tape (we recommend using the blue painters tape)  Make sure you level your piece to the actual vinyl, not the edge of the sheet as it may not be perfectly straight.

Step 2
Using a vinyl application tool, or something similar like a spatula or a credit card, to rub the top of the transfer sheet so that the vinyl words adhere to it.

Step 3
Flip the entire sheet up and peel off the backing (bottom layer) making sure the vinyl is all adhered to the transfer sheet (top layer).

Step 4
Pull the transfer sheet with your vinyl back down into place carefully avoiding any wrinkles.

Step 5
Using your application tool, rub the transfer sheet so that the vinyl adheres to the wall.

Step 6
Remove the transfer sheet slowly and carefully.

Vinyl Wall Art Removal

Removing vinyl is easy to do.  Use a hairdryer to slightly heat the vinyl.  Use your fingertips or tweezers to gently lift the top edge, then pull in a consistent slow downward motion.  If you see paint starting to fleck off, stop and apply more heat to the vinyl.  Once the vinyl has been removed, there may be some residue left on your walls that you simply wash off.

95% of the time vinyl is removed without any paint damage whatsoever, however there are some instances when the paint may fleck off.  The Writing on the Wall cannot be held responsible for any damage that may occur to your walls.
